Anzère Switzerland Ski Resort Review

Anzere Switzerland Ski Resort Review

Anzère Switzerland Ski Resort is overlooking the Rhone and Sion valley, the Valais. It annually gets 394 inches / 10 meters of snowfall on average, so it’s a true dream destination for fresh powder.

Anzère Switzerland Pros

Since Anzère ski resort is in Switzerland, in general the facilities are top notch. Other resorts like Saas-Fee and Verbier get lower amounts of snow (but it does stick around!), Anzère Switzerland gets a lot! On top it offers an amazing vertical descent of 1039 meters / 3409 feet. It’s absolutely snow secure with high chance of powder days. The resort has some great hotels that offer great quality compared to the pricing. Which applies to everything in and around Anzère compared to the rest of Switzerland, since Switzerland is expensive in general. If you are a hotel person, check Hotel des Masques. The resort has amazing panorama’s from pretty much any angle.

It’s a green village. Almost all buildings are ecologically heated by the largest heating station in Europa, fueled by wood. On top, Anzère takes part in the 3×20 program: Reduce energy consumption by 20%, cover energy needs for 20% with renewable energy and reduce gas emissions by 20%. All before 2020.

The resort has reduced traffic and pedestrian only places, making it even more enjoyable. Anzère’s activities used to be rural up to the 1950′s. During that decade, it shifted to tourism. Within 20 years, Anzère became a resort for summer and winter sports.

Anzère Switzerland Lifts

Anzère Switzerland offers 4 chairlifts, 8 surface lifts that take you to 15 pistes covering 40 km / 25 miles. In general the terrain is most suited for intermediate skiers, but does offer advanced terrain. The  mountains have various “hutten” that offer delicious local specialties. Yummie. Another good sign is that the lift company’s keep on investing. In 2011, more beginners runs have been added.

Anzère Switzerland Cons

The area hardly has any. The people are friendly. If you have a family, Anzère welcomes you. If you are an expert skier, ditto. But if you love nightlive, Anzère is not the place to go. The apres-ski is pretty much not available. Also, no park terrain.
